Birks hosts one of the largest Pink Diamonds in the World in their Edmonton downton location
Birks Jewelers are hosting a Natural Colored Diamonds Event. The luxury Jeweler, established in 1879, is a
leading North American manufacturer and retailer of fine jewellery. Birks is showcasing the rare one-of-a-kind fancy Colored Diamonds from around the world. These diamonds are found in nature and come in yellow, blue, pink or purple. They occur in nature so rarely that they are miracles of nature. Only one diamond out of 100,000 can truly be called a " Natural Fancy-Colored Diamond" because of the physical conditions required from nature to produce it. The color of a diamond that mother nature creates comes from a geological process. The colored diamonds are much rarer, and thus more expensive.
The star of the Event is a 10 carat, radiant cut 2.5 million dollar pink diamond platinum ring belonging to a private collector that was unearthed in a South American mine three months ago at 21.35 carats. Forbes reports that "Pink diamonds of this size are extremely rare." According to Press Centre,"The auction house Christies -one of the most important resellers of diamonds in the world, has reportedly only auctioned 18 polished diamonds that are over 10 carats in their 244 year history."
Eva Hartling, the director of public relations for Birks and Mayors told the Edmonton Journal, " You could say the diamond is on consignment, and that's something we do for very special diamonds. We don't keep stones that large as part of our inventory. Hopefully, we'll see if we have a buyer in Edmonton".
One pink diamond of significance is according to Christies auction house a Williamson Pink - a 23.60 carat beautiful pink diamond that was presented to the Queen Elizabeth II on the occassion of her wedding in 1947. Another was the pink diamond engagement ring that Ben Affleck gave to then fiance Jennifer Lopez.
This gives you an idea of how important the Birks showing really is. If you're a diamond or jewelry lover or just want to see one of Nature's marvels that is rarely seen, then hurry down to the Manulife Building. The Event ends tomorrow, April 17th.
